Critical Thinking: Tools for Success

How important is critical thinking and information skills for an entrepreneur?

Watch this video to find out how John developed an idea for a solar-powered coffee cart. While you watch, think about the question: How did the business owner use critical thinking in the coffee cart innovations?

Ways of thinking and doing and barriers to critical thinking

Think about the coffee cart example you have just seen in the video. What questions could you ask for each of the elements of critical thinking as applied to the coffee cart example? For example, for evaluating information and sources, you might need to ask ‘what sources of information would help us make good choices to achieve our business goals?’

Then think about a barrier to critical thinking, e.g. a barrier related to evaluating information and sources could be using unreliable information.

Critical questions and barriers

What sources of information help us make good choices to achieve our goals?

What are the different options for securely storing the cart?

How can we use the coffee cart for social good? How can we reduce our power usage?

How can people easily move the cart to different locations?

How can we use these answers to make choices for our business?
