At university there is a wide range of assessment tasks that you may only see in specific disciplines and are less common than essays, reports or exams. These assessment tasks can be written or practical and may simulate some professional or career related applications of your learning.
Many of these follow an iterative process. This means you will need to complete several steps involving design, development or testing, throughout the semester, to produce the final product.
Tips
- Review all instructions as well as the marking criteria. Ask questions early if you are unsure about any aspect of the task.
- Identify any special skills or requirements related to your area of study.
- Plan your time for each task. Break it down into manageable chunks of work.
- Know your audience. Tailor your work to who the assignment is intended e.g. your academics or a hypothetical client.
- Use clear language and structure, even for documenting or describing creative/visual tasks.
- Take the time to review and edit your work before submission. Take a break in between to review the work with fresh eyes.
- Complete your work with integrity – make sure your work is original and any sources are acknowledged.
