Introduction
Welcome to the Western Open Books Information for Authors guide.
This guide is designed to walk you through the key steps in creating, authoring, and publishing your open textbook with the Library and Western Open Books. Whether you’re just beginning or already have content in mind, this resource will help you navigate the open publishing process with confidence.
Your journey starts with your School Librarian[1], who can assist you in identifying high-quality Open Educational Resources (OER) and provide guidance on Creative Commons licensing to ensure your work is openly and ethically shared.
After your initial consultation with the Library, you can take the next step by submitting a WesternNow Western Open Books Publishing Advice[2] form. This will connect you with the Scholarly Publishing Consultant, who can offer tailored advice and support throughout the publishing process.
We’re excited to support you in creating resources that will benefit students, educators, and the wider community.
The Library partners with the academic community to help embed Creative Commons licensed materials written for curriculum or educational activities and to explore sustainable approaches to learning resources by:
- Helping you develop targeted, small textbooks to support your unit.
- Granting an open-access licence to unpublished teaching guides, scholarly materials, and research.
- Contextualising existing resources to meet local needs and embedding them into the curriculum.
