5 Find suitable Open Textbooks and OER
Begin your search by exploring the following repositories to find high-quality, peer-reviewed open textbooks. Be sure to check the copyright or Creative Commons licence for each resource to confirm how it can be used and what permissions are granted.
- WSU Library collections
- Go to the Library Search box > Advanced Search.
- Using the Search Filters, select “Title” from the lookup list. Enter your search terms alongside this.
- Then select “Material Type”: Books, then click on SEARCH.
- On the search results page, navigate to the section on the left side of your screen, titled “Refine my results.” Under “Availability”, refine your results by clicking on both “Full Text Online” and “Open Access”. Click on APPLY FILTERS, then browse your search results.
- Pressbooks Directory. Search or browse for open textbooks that you can use or adapt to suit your learning objectives.
- Mason OER Metafinder. Conducts a real-time, simultaneous, federated search across 23 different sources of open educational materials as you hit the “Search” button.
- Find FREE Online Course Materials Related to a Book. Type in your commercial textbook’s ISBN to find open alternatives.
