Schedule a scoping consultation with your School Librarian

Your School Librarian will meet with you to discuss your proposal and expectations.

Consider also discussing:

  • What to expect

    1. Proposal
      Initial meeting with your School Librarian to discuss your proposed project.
    2. Initial scoping consultation
      Meeting with the Western Open Books team to discuss and scope your goals for the open text. Author Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the authors. Resources and templates shared with the author.
    3. Start planning
      The library will help you plan the structure of the open text, outline the timeframe, coordinate resources, provide templates, support, and promotions for your open text.
    4. Begin writing
      Start drafting content and gathering materials.
    5. Progress support workshops
      Catch up regularly with the Western Open Books team to advance your progress, receive guidance and support, and plan your next steps.
    6. Quality assurance
      Submit the first draft for copyright compliance, peer review, copy editing, and final quality assessment to ensure high quality and accessibility for all.
    7. Publish
      Your open text will be catalogued, indexed, published with a DOI and promoted widely.
    8. Recognition, reward, and evaluation
      The library will help you gather metrics to support your grant, award, and promotion applications.
  • Acceptance criteria: for publishing with the Library and Western Open Books

Our criteria for accepting Western Sydney University proposals are:

    • There must be a minimum of one Western Sydney University (WSU) author
    • The proposed learning and teaching resource will be used for a specific WSU course or microcredential, or
    • The proposed resource supports the University’s Sustainable Development Goals
    • Conference papers or articles to be published as collections must have been peer reviewed and copy edited.
  • Training needs: including Creative Commons licensing

  • Resourcing needs, including finding and evaluating open access content

  • How to promote your work: before, upon and after publication
