Getting started with Hypothes.is Annotations

If you haven’t already, create a free Hypothes.is account. You’ll receive an activation email—this may take a few minutes to arrive. Once it does, click the link in the email to activate your account.

After registering and logging into Hypothes.is, return to your webbook page.

  • In the top right corner of the screen, you should see a set of icons—this indicates annotation functionality is available.
  • Click the ‘less-than’ symbol (<) to open the Hypothes.is side panel and read the instructions provided.

Once you’ve reviewed the instructions, click the ‘greater-than’ symbol (>) to close the side panel.

To begin reviewing the text:

  1. Click ‘READ BOOK’ to open the book.

  2. Highlight any portion of the text you’d like to comment on.

  3. Click ‘Annotate’ to leave a visible comment, or ‘Highlight’ if you’d like to keep the note private.

  4. Enter your comment in the Annotations section, then click ‘Post to Getting Started with PB’.
